An Understanding Heart
“Wisdom is enshrined in an understanding heart; wisdom is not found among fools.” Proverbs 14:33 NLT
In the arrogance of our flesh, we all have the temptation to second guess God on occasion.
From our world-centered, human perspective, some of the things God does just don’t make sense to us.
To “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding,” (Proverbs 3:5) is perhaps for many the hardest command we will ever be asked to obey. Read the rest of this entry »
Living Wisely
James 3:13-18, Job 28
Living Wisely
“I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you, I attentively watch how you’ve done it. I relish everything you’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a word of it.” Psalm 119:15 MSG
There is a wisdom of the flesh that is all about “looking out for #1” and leading egocentric, self-serving, and self- seeking lives. This is a mentality that feeds the basic instincts of our flesh and eventually reaps a whirlwind of bad consequences and the severe judgment of God.
The conventional wisdom of the world is all about “being all that you can be” in your own strength and being wise in the materialistic, secularistic, and hedonistic ways of the world.
The wisdom of God rises above and beyond all earthly wisdom. It is powered by the Holy Spirit and energizes all believers to live lives of peace, joy, and beauty as modeled and taught by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Reverence and respect for the Lord is the beginning of all true wisdom. Understanding that God’s thoughts and God’s ways are higher and submitting to this realization will help us to avoid much needless worry and stress.
Wisdom will teach us that there is a way which seems right to man that leads to destruction, and that God has set boundaries not to kill our joy and pleasure, but to insure it.
Living wisely begins and ends with growing in the knowledge and understanding of the Lord as He reveals Himself through Scripture, prayer, worship, circumstances, and other believers.
Father, fill me with all wisdom and spiritual discernment as I seek to live wisely by abiding in You and Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen
This Is My Rest [Psalm 132:14]
Psalm 132:14
This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.
The climb was steep and treacherous, and there were no level places to stop. The sun was beating down, and the two climbers were exhausted. Both were beginning to question the wisdom of the climb. Just as they began to despair of ever making it alive, a ledge jutted into the cliff, and both climbers pulled themselves up onto it. There, in the cool shade cast by the rock, the climbers were renewed and strengthened, enabled to finish their ascent.
The Lord provides us with a place to rest in this climb of ours through life. He welcomes us, shades us, protects us, and enables us to go forth strengthened and renewed. We are never far from this rest. All we need do is turn to the Lord, and He will grant us respite.
Prayer:
Lord, take me into Your loving arms to comfort and energize me. I get so tired sometimes, and I need a place to escape. Help me to turn inward, to dwell with Christ, and to dr aw upon His power. Amen.
May the Lord Richly Bless you
Until next time…
