The Great Exchange
“What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26 NIV
Once we have tasted that the Lord is good, it becomes hard to believe that we waited so long to answer our call to salvation and eternal life in Christ.
We often have become so concerned about what we might have to give up that we became blinded by the enormity of what we receive.
Often, we have just not been willing to give up the world and all of its pleasures for a hope of heaven that seems so distant.
We cling to our pride and our distorted fleshly view of what we think will make us happy, and sometimes spend years wandering aimlessly lost clinging to the futility of our sins through which we willfully stay separated from God.
We all need to daily think about the grace of God which has allowed us to trade our sorrows for Jesus’ joy, our worries for Jesus’ peace, our guilt for God’s forgiveness, and our sin-dominated lives for the freedom of living forever in the strength and power of the Holy Spirit in a new life in Christ.
When we consider what Jesus gave up in exchange for our souls, we should be ashamed to even have thought that we might have to give up. He gave up the kingdom of the World and all of its pleasures
and His own life in exchange for our sins, so that we could live forever in Him.
As we cling to the false hope and false security of living in our strength and for our purposes, we will never know the true happiness and fulfillment of exchanging our old life in the flesh for a new life controlled and transformed by the Spirit.
Father, thank You for leading me to accept the best trade ever offered. . In Jesus’ name, Amen

A Common Misperception
“The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy. The LORD is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” Psalm 145:8, 9
I never cease to be amazed at the number of people who have a totally wrong perception of God.
Whether it’s from controlling, abusive parents, or from fear-mongering preachers or Sunday School teachers, the idea that God is a God of wrath just waiting for us to get out of line so that He can zap us is far too common and totally unfaithful to Scripture. Read the rest of this entry »
