Armed and Dangerous

“The night is far gone and the day is almost here. Let us then drop (fling away) the works and deeds of darkness and put on the [full] armor of light.” Romans 13:12 AMP

The pilgrims who settled this country could never be considered armed and dangerous in the conventional sense, but they came armed and dangerous with faith and the power of God’s Word. Read the rest of this entry »

How’s Your Love Life?

Read 1 Corinthians 13, Psalm 5
How’s Your Love Life?

“If you love me, show it by doing what I’ve told you. I will talk to the Father, and he’ll provide you another Friend so that you will always have someone with you. This Friend is the Spirit of Truth.” John 14:15 MSG

Although we may often fail and disappoint God, how comforting it is to know that God’s love is unfailing and will never disappoint. Oh, what a Savior!

Although this question often carries romantic implications, it is much more meaningful to ask in connection with our love affair with Jesus.

When we think about it, our lives should be all about our love life with God. This is why we were created, and this should be our main purpose in living.

We were created in God’s love for the purpose of being conduits of God’s love to others that they might be encouraged in their love life with God, or hopefully that those who do not know the love of God may come to know Him through us.

When we paraphrase 1 Corinthians 1:13 1-8 and substitute “Jesus” for the word love, we see the character and personality of Christ that bears out the truth that “God is love.”

When we substitute our names for the word love in verses 4 through 7, we can see how close we have come and how far we have to go in growing into the fullness of Christ.

These verses should be the target we strive for as we place our minds attention and hearts affection to being conformed into the image of Christ. It should be the hearts desire of every believer that our love life with the Lord could be identified by this definition.

Father, keep my love life burning with passion for You and all the love You give to me daily. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Does the One with the Most Toys Really Win?

Read John 17, Psalm 5
Does the One with the Most Toys Really Win?

“I have God’s more-than-enough, more joy in one ordinary day than they get in all their shopping sprees. At day’s end I’m ready for sound sleep, for you, GOD, have put my life back together.” Psalm 4:7 MSG

If we were to believe bumper stickers and the prevailing thought of many, life is summed up as “the one with the most toys wins.”

This begs the question: “win what”? What toy or idol will not be left behind? What pleasure is there in possessions that possess us? When the driving force of our life is to get more “toys,” and we define our success in terms of how many “toys” we accumulate, we are going to experience the poverty of the soul.

How much better to make seeking Jesus’ joy the driving force of our lives! How much better to know that “the one with the most joys wins”!

We have been created by God for His pleasure and to bring joy to His heart by being imitators of Jesus, whose number-one priority was to bring God joy by His “obedience even unto death.”

Praise the Lord! God is not calling us to die to anything but sin. Rather, He is calling us to live in the fullness of Jesus’ joy as we become more and more like Him by abiding in the Word and seeking to live fruitful lives fully pleasing to Him.

There are no joys to compare with the joys that are ours through faith in Jesus Christ. We have the joy of our salvation, the joy of friendship with Jesus, son ship with God, the joy of the presence of the Holy Spirit living within us, and the peace and joy of the Lord that surpasses all understanding.

The only real winners are those who experience the joys of winning the crown of everlasting life through a personal relationship with Jesus.

Father, thank you for making me a winner through Jesus. In Jesus’ name, Amen
