Our Pro Choice God
“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live!” Deuteronomy 30:19 NLT
Freedom of choice is probably one of the least understood and most profound articles in God’s “Bill of Rights.”
Although God has put a longing for Him into our hearts and would have all men to be saved by receiving Jesus as Savior, He is not going to force Himself on anyone.
If we choose to reject God’s wonderful gift of salvation and live life in the trivial pursuits of living life controlled by our flesh, the world, or the devil, God respects our choice and even provides a place where we can live lives forever — tormented and separated from Him.
Nobody goes to hell by God’s choice, but by their own choice to reject and continue to live lives separated from God.
Although God makes it perfectly clear that He wants us to seek Him and His righteousness first so that He can add all that we need for living life to the fullest in a love relationship with Him through His Son, God is not going to force His righteousness or His goodness on anyone.
God has made His existence perfectly clear through nature, through His Word, and through His Son. No one is going to have ignorance of God as an excuse for choosing to reject Him.
Our freedom of choice to receive or reject Jesus will stay with us up to the very end of our lives on earth. The thief on the cross validates this truth.
When it comes to being “pro choice,” it is hard to fathom why anyone would choose being pro death over pro life in Christ.
Father, help me to make the right choices. In Jesus’ name, Amen

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” Colossians 3:16
There’s nothing fishy about being a sponge. We need to be more like one. When we absorb the Word of God into our minds and hearts like a sponge, we are going to become bigger and stronger in every area of our lives. Read the rest of this entry »

“Observe and obey all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and your children after you forever, when you do what is good and right in the sight of the Lord your God.” Deuteronomy 12:28
Just as faith in Jesus Christ is the key to receiving eternal life, obedience is the key to the sanctified, abundant life in Christ.
Faith without obedience is like seed sown among the thorns and succumbs to the cares of this world. It is almost as bad as no faith at all.
It is an utterly amazing and deplorable thing that many will not receive Jesus Christ as Savior at all because they are not willing to give up what they perceive as pleasures and treasures while totally blind to the truth that God promises so much more in real pleasures and treasures. The old things pass away and are not even missed as all things become new in Christ.
We might well paraphrase 1 Corinthians 13 and substitute obedience for love and find out that without obedience we are just clanging symbols making “meaningless noise.”
He not only sent us the Good Shepherd to lead us and lay down His life for us, but He also sent the Holy Spirit to guide us and give us the power to live the lives of obedience that growing into the fullness of Christ requires.
When we give up self control for Spirit control, we trade our corruptible nature for an incorruptible one and cover our weaknesses with God’s strength. This is the key to unlocking the treasures of the abundant life.
Father, help me to enjoy the blessings of obedience in every area of my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
