Our “Pro Bono” Attorney

Our “Pro Bono” Attorney

“And He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53:12b NLT

Whether we like to think about it or not, we are all awaiting trial. Some are even in bondage awaiting trial, and, worst of all, we are all as guilty as sin. In fact, we are all guilty of sin!

If we are honest and compare our thoughts, words, and things we’ve done and failed to do with God’s standard of perfection, we have more than enough entries in our sin record to qualify for a lifetime sentence with no hope of parole. Read the rest of this entry »

Giving God a Buffet of Prayer

Read Matthew 7:7-11, Psalm 69
Giving God a Buffet of Prayer

“Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.” Colossians 4:2 NLT

God loves, hears, and answers our prayers. We learn from Scripture that he inhabits the praises of His people, that He delights in giving what we ask that will glorify Him and be in accordance with His good and gracious will and perfect plan for our lives.

He is a rewarder of those who seek Him, and He will even grant the desires of our heart. He is able to do “far more abundantly than all we ask or think.” (Ephesians 3:20 NASB) He even tells us through James that we have not because we ask not, and that the fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman) avails much.

This all being true, and it is because God says so, we need to take prayer more seriously. One way to do this is to develop a prayer buffet.

When we worship the power, majesty, and goodness of God in prayer, we worship a bigger God. When we humble ourselves and confess our sins with godly sorrow and true repentance, we receive grace and mercy to cover all our sins.

Scripture records that God will honor our faith and trust in extraordinary ways when we rejoice and give thanks for answered prayers and not only the good things but also what we perceive to be the bad things of life.

After we have done all this, we are ready to ask God for whatever we think we need and for the needs of others. Our prayers will become less self-centered and more Christ-centered. Best of all, we will approach the throne of grace more boldly and expectantly, anchored by the confidence that answered prayers bring.

Prayer should not be offered as a snack, but a full course buffet.

Father, strengthen my prayer base as you strengthen my faith base in your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen
