Inspections

Read 1 Corinthians 3, Psalm 96
Inspections

“Eventually there is going to be an inspection. If you use cheap or inferior materials, you’ll be found out. The inspection will be thorough and rigorous. You won’t get by with a thing.” 1 Corinthians 3:13 MSG

We live in an inspection oriented society. We have inspectors checking food, restaurants, medications, and gasoline pumps.

I especially appreciate that the airplanes I ride in are inspected often. It seems strange that we put such great emphasis on inspecting everything except the most important thing. Read the rest of this entry »

Whose Standards?

Read 1 Corinthians 3, Proverbs 20
Whose Standards?

“Repent now every one of his evil ways and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the LORD has given to you and your fathers forever and ever.” Jeremiah 25:5 NLT

The Supreme Court has ruled that obscenity will be defined by the prevailing standards of a community.

As more and more people fall away from faith and trust in God, God’s standards continue to fall by the wayside, and our country and communities sink deeper into the mire of carnality and the standards of depraved men replace the standards of God.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has been established to develop and promote measurement, standards, and technology to enhance productivity, facilitate trade, and improve the quality of life. It is a shame that there are no longer governmental standards based on God’s standards to achieve the same purposes.

The fact that our government is no longer guided by God’s standards is hard to realize and accept.

We bemoan the removal of God and prayer from our schools, currency and government. We are sick at heart over the mantle of respectability being legislated for things that God calls abominations, but the reality is that this is the reality of life in Americ a at the start of the 21st century.

We need to go beyond bemoaning and being sick at heart. We need to start electing federal judges for regular terms instead of having them appointed to life- time terms with no accountability.

We need to bring back God’s standards by bringing our people back to God through revival and renewal that will bring a return to His precepts. Most importantly of all, we must resolve, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD”(Joshua 24:15b).

Father, let world-wide renewal and revival begin with me. In Jesus’ name, Amen

What Will Remain?

Read 1 Corinthians 3, Psalm 116
What Will Remain?

“Store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.” Matthew 6:20,21 NLT

The reality of judgment day should give us all cause to ponder. We will go to stand before the righteous judge clothed in the righteousness of Christ which we received as a free gift by faith, but we still must give an account of the stewardship of our lives.

The big car we drove, the money we made, the trophies we won, and all of the achievements that the world uses to define success are going to burn away like wood, hay, and stubble.

The hours spent in the vast wasteland of movies and TV will not win any accolades from God. The hours spent comforting those who mourn, visiting the sick and those in prison, raising godly children, and making disciples are the things that God promises to reward.

The dollars spent on the toys of life and selfish pursuits are not going to fill any storehouses in heaven. Feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, and being generous with God on every occasion is how we send our treasures ahead.

The squandering of the talents God has given to glorify ourselves instead of using them as a witness and sacrifice of praise to the Lord short circuits God’s plans for us to be fruitful in good works that glorify Him and allow Him to achieve His purposes through us.

Could there really be anything sweeter than hearing “well done” from the one who did it all for us? Isn’t it time to start thinking about the future and bearing some fruit of righteousness that will remain after the straw has been burned away?

Father help me to better use my time, talents, and treasures to serve and glorify You while there is still time. In Jesus’ name, Amen

We grumble about the removal of God and prayer from our schools, currency and government. We are sick at heart over the cloak of respectability being legislated for things that God calls abominations, but the reality is that this is the reality of life in our nation and throughout the world.
