The Perfect Sleeper

The Perfect Sleeper

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28 NIV

The mattress wars are raging and about every storefront in any town is now selling them. Mattresses too pretty to cover up are going for several thousand dollars a set and selling like popcorn.

The new space age material is quite a sensation. The old standbys like Beauty Rest, Sealy “Posturepedic,” and Serta “Perfect Sleeper” promise to have you sleeping like a kitten with no backaches.

The best mattress ever made cannot guarantee a good night’s sleep. The agonies of broken hearts, guilty consciences, and pillow cases of worry can leave us tossing and turning all night long, no matter what kind of mattress we have.

Life can be a bed of roses, but even these are accompanied by thorns that can rob us of our joy and lead to long nights of agonizing sleeplessness.

There is no better aid to sleep than a conscience cleaned of guilt by the blood of Jesus Christ and a life filled with the peace that surpasses all our understanding.

We have the God of all comfort who will mend our broken hearts, cleanse our consciences of all guilt, and give us His peace.

He invites us all to cast our burdens on Him and enter into that perfect rest that we find only in the sanctuary of His grace which He has promised to supply, sufficient for all our needs every day of our lives.

May our relationship grow so close and personal that our “pillow talk” of prayer will lead us into perfect sleep and renewed grace and mercy every morning thanks to the faithfulness of God.

Father, instead of counting sheep, teach me to count my blessings until I receive the blessing of perfect sleep. Amen
