“Stay on the path that the LORD your God has commanded you to follow. Then you will live long and prosperous lives in the land you are about to enter and occupy.” Deuteronomy 5:33

A road atlas is a handy thing to have when traveling, and I believe far superior to some of the computer print outs that seem to get me mixed up at times. It sure beats stopping to ask for directions which are often confusing and often wrong.

The road of life can often be a nightmare to travel, especially without a map. There are detours, bridges out, dead ends, breaks in pavement, and even mine fields that can cause major problems for the uninformed and unsuspecting traveler.

Before we can plan a route, we need to have a destination or some idea of where we are going.

Some set their sights on happiness as defined by the world’s standards and go down paths that lead only to misery and suffering. Some choose short cuts that will cut short any hope of reaching their destination all in one piece.

Scripture tells us, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death” (Proverbs 14:12). If we go through life flying by the “seat of our pants,” navigating by relative truth, and doing whatever feels good, we can be sure that our ultimate destination will be the “lake of fire.”

God sent His only Son to show the way and give us a light and a path to glory and the destination of eternal life. He tells us how to be blessed and how to be accursed.

He tells us the secret of real joy and real happiness that can never be achieved apart from Him. Oh that we might pay attention to Him and the truth and the way He teaches that leads to eternal life to its fullest for now and forever.

Father, help me to follow Jesus along the paths of righteousness until I am safely home. In Jesus’ name, Amen
