Lord, Teach Me Patience & Please Hurry

“Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” Colossians 3:12 NLT

Patience is a virtue many of us seem to struggle with even in our new life in Christ. We live in an age of instant gratification, communication, and self- centeredness.

Impatience is a major cause of almost all accidents. When we get impatient, oftentimes bad things happen and we often find ourselves ending up spending twice as much time and energy as if we had just been patient and taken our time in the first place.

How many relationships have we had go sour because we were too quick too speak and get angry?

God’s character development program for us involves teaching us to be patient and steadfast despite opposition, difficulty, or adversity. Time and time again Scripture reminds us to patiently endure.

God tells us in James 5:11, “My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience. Indeed we count them blessed who endure. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and seen the end intended by the Lord—that the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.”

Impatience can not only lead us into bad marriages, but is often the underlying cause of conflict in even the best of marriages. When we are impatient with our spouses or our children, we are not modeling the love of Christ which we are all commanded to reflect.

If God was not longsuffering and patient with us, we would all be doomed. Should we not also be longsuffering and patient with others?

Father, help me to be patient in every area of my life’ In Jesus’ name, Amen
