Out of the Darkness

“This is so you can show others the goodness of God, for He called you out of the darkness into His wonderful light.” 1 Peter 12:9b

What has been the darkest and most painful moment or period of your life? Thinking about this can bring back some painful memories for all of us and is a good way to begin thinking of the most painful moment in the life of our Savior.

Nothing that we have ever suffered can ever begin to compare with what our Lord suffered. Betrayal, rejection, mockery, ridicule, torture, humiliation, and crucifixion were all part of the cup of suffering.

As terrible as all these things were, they could not begin to compare with the perfect, innocent, and Holy Lamb of God dying and suffering separation from God in the depths of hell.

The “Good News” is that He arose from death and brought the light of perfect love in all its brilliance and resurrection power for eternal life into the lives of all believers.

This supreme example of turning the darkness of despair into the marvelous light of our salvation and hope of glory should give us all cause to “ponder anew what the Almighty can do” and has done for each and every one of us.

As we go through the hills and valleys of life there is great hope and great comfort in knowing that our Lord has gone through much worse than we will ever have to go through, and no matter how deep the valley nor how dark the despair, He is there with us to sustain us by His grace, strengthen us with His power, and comfort us with His love.

Father, thank you for being the solid rock on which I can stand and be sure that there is light at the end of any tunnel through which I must travel. In Jesus’ name, Amen
