Our “Pro Bono” Attorney

Our “Pro Bono” Attorney

“And He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” Isaiah 53:12b NLT

Whether we like to think about it or not, we are all awaiting trial. Some are even in bondage awaiting trial, and, worst of all, we are all as guilty as sin. In fact, we are all guilty of sin!

If we are honest and compare our thoughts, words, and things we’ve done and failed to do with God’s standard of perfection, we have more than enough entries in our sin record to qualify for a lifetime sentence with no hope of parole.

We often get outraged at some of the famous defense attorneys who manage to get really bad and really guilty people off free. To see the guilty set free on some of the tricks and technicalities used sometimes seems to make a mockery of our justice system.

The reality of death is that we are all going to die. God’s Word clearly tells us that we are all going to stand trial and be held accountable for all of our sins when we die, and that “the wages of sin is death.”

There is an old saying, “He who has himself as his lawyer has a fool for a client.” When it comes to standing before God at the great judgment, this is most certainly true.

If we enter God’s court thinking that we have been good enough or refusing to believe that there is a judgment day, we are going to have a rude awakening even after death.

How good it is to know and believe Jesus Christ’s death on the cross has been credited to our sin account and made us righteous in God’s sight. Jesus is not only the best defense attorney we could ever have, but He is working pro bono. He is pleading our case for free.

Father, thank you for the assurance of knowing that Jesus has never lost a case in your throne of judgment and justice. In Jesus’ name, Amen
