Taking Care of Business
Read Luke 2:49-52, Psalm 11
Taking Care of Business
“So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come.’” Luke 19:13
We have been given our lives to do business for the Lord. We were created for God’s pleasure and glory and to do the good works He planned for us before we were even born.
We who believe in Jesus Christ have been given eternal life as a free gift by the grace of God without any conditions of doing any good works, because a gift cannot be earned.
If both of these statements which Scripture after Scripture makes the truth of which abundantly clear, how do we reconcile the apparent conflict? 1 Corinthians 3:13-16 tells us: “But there is going to come a time of testing at the judgment day to see what kind of work each builder has done. Everyone’s work will be put through the fire to see whether or not it keeps its value. If the work survives the fire, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builders themselves will be saved, but like someone escaping through a wall of flames.”
Salvation is not a reward but our Savior’s “well done, thou good and faithful servant” is going to be music to the ear of every believer who has taken care of God’s business and fulfilled His purposes.
When we fall in love with Jesus because of His love for us, we can know no greater joy than having the privilege of loving Him by serving and glorifying Him to the highest level of our gifting in this life and in the life to come.
When we give our utmost for His highest purposes here, we are going to be rewarded by serving His highest purposes in heaven. This should make us all want to make taking care of God’s business our number one priority.
Father, let the stewardship of every area of my life reflect my response to Your love and Your call. In Jesus’ name, Amen
