Who Can Fill Your Every Longing?

“For whoever finds me finds life and wins approval from the LORD.” Proverbs 8:35

Every child born of woman is born with needs and longings. We need the basics of food and water to sustain our lives. We need shelter from the elements and provision for our physical and emotional needs.

Beyond the needs, God has placed a longing for Him in the heart of every person. Primitive cultures have expressed this longing for God in every imaginable way. They have worshipped the sun, the moon, nature, animals, and every type of idol in trying to satisfy this inbred longing for God.

All of these longings for God seem to have been manifested by trying to appease God through sacrificial rituals or making graven images to worship.

In today’s supposedly advanced civilization and enlightened culture this longing for God seems to manifest itself in trying to satisfy this longing for significance and security by worshipping idols of power, applause, possessions, and pleasure with often disastrous results.

We do not have the excuse of the sun and moon worshippers who had no revelation of the Word to guide them.

God has plainly spoken through the prophets and through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ that Jesus is the only one who can fill the longing of our hearts for real significance and security.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He has come to fill that inborn longing for God with unquenchable joy and peace that surpasses all human understanding. There is no fullness apart from a right relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Father, fill me with Your Spirit that my heart’s longing might be satisfied in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen
