Collision Avoidance Systems

“Unfailing love and faithfulness cover sin; evil is avoided by fear of the LORD.” Proverbs 16:6 NLT

Federal Aviation Administration records show over a hundred “mid-air collision near misses” each year. All planes now carry collision avoidance equipment to warn of impending crashes with other planes, mountains, or other objects and to give instructions on how to avoid them.

Millions of dollars are being spent on research to design a workable collision avoidance system on automobiles. Many new cars come with a warning system that sound the alarm when you are about to back into something.

God has designed a collision-avoidance system for every believer. He sends the Holy Spirit to help us avoid the pitfalls of hell by calling us to faith in Jesus Christ.

When we receive Jesus Christ as our Savior, we also receive the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit to guide us into all truth and to help us avoid the collisions with the sins lurking all around us.

The Holy Spirit is continually making intercession for us according to the will of God that we might avoid the collisions caused by the weakness of our flesh and find His way of escaping the temptations that beset us.

When we are filled with the fruit of the Spirit, our love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control will help us avoid many collisions that might otherwise damage our relationship with God and with others.

God’s collision-avoidance system will use our conscience, our prayers, His Word, or the concern of fellow believers to warn us of impending collisions. We need to pray for the spiritual discernment to hear the warnings and follow the instructions to “pull up,” “turn,” “fight,” “flee,” etc.

Father, help me to obey the warnings of Your collision-avoidance system. In Jesus’ name, Amen
