Living in the World of Make Believe

“But against all illusion and fantasy and empty talk there’s always this rock foundation: fear God!” Ecclesiastes 5:7 MSG

If we were to clock the hours spent in the make-believe world of TV, movies, video games, and internet, we would find that we and a number of others are spending a great deal of time living in a fantasy world of make believe.

Belief runs the gamut from the reality of our faith in the ability of Jesus to save us and the reality that He is the truth, to the make believe of denial that we are sinners who need a Savior, that we have an addiction of any kind, or that
God doesn’t really mean what He says.

Some enter into a make-believe expectation of marriage where everything will be wonderful, and it will be full of bliss, free from conflict, and free from misunderstandings.

Others enter into a make-believe concept of religion, where if we pay our tithes, go to church, and don’t sin too much, we will become wealthy, healthy, and wise with great marriages, perfect kids, beautiful homes and fast cars.

We often seem to prefer a make-believe God, who we can define by our view of who He is and should be, and we can do or believe anything as long as we’re sincere.

We don’t have a make-believe God! He has revealed His sovereignty, His majesty, His omniscience, His presence, and His heart. He came to earth to reveal Himself as the Word made flesh so that we don’t have to make believe anything about Him, His love, or His will for us.

Is the reality of God and our personal relationship with Him lived out in believing the reality that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life?

Father help me to get over my unbelief, and more importantly my make belief that is contradiction to your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
