Putting on the New [Ephesians 4:20-32, Psalm 51]
Read Ephesians 4:20-32, Psalm 51
Putting on the New
“Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, because His
compassion’s fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22, 23
The baggage of the past holds many of us back too many times and in too many areas of our lives.
When we get “burnt” by relationships, failed efforts, and reverse fortunes of any kind, we too often withdraw and lick our wounds instead of confessing, forgiving, being forgiven, forgetting, and moving on.
Hopefully we will learn something every time we get burnt and will not make the same mistake again, but we must never let burnings defeat us as we seek to live life to the fullest in Christ.
As we start a new year, it is a good time to be reminded that we were made new when we received Jesus Christ as our Savior, and we are continually being renewed by daily confession and repentance as we put off the sins of our old nature and put on the righteousness of Christ.
We need to remind ourselves daily that our new birth means that sin no longer has dominion over us, and there is absolutely no reason why we have to continue sinning.
When we put on the new, we need to remember that we are new creations in Christ, and we are actually set free from the control of sin so that we can become slaves to Christ and His righteousness.
When we appropriate by faith whom we have become in Jesus Christ, we will receive resurrection power and strength from the Holy Spirit to begin living like the new creation Christ has made us to be.
If there is no change in our conduct, attitudes, and perspectives, we must question the reality of our conversion and go back to the well of confession and true repentance until the evidence of Christ living in us becomes manifest.
Father, as You came to make all things new, let me live daily in newness of life I have found in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen
