You are Being Audited

But there is going to come a time of testing at the judgment day to see what kind of work each builder has done.” 1 Corinthians 3:12a NLT

A letter from the Internal Revenue Service notifying you that your tax return is being audited brings a lot of angst regardless of whether or not you’ve done anything wrong.

We should be a lot more concerned about the audit of our lives at the great throne of judgment at the resurrection of the just.

Heaven is a free gift for all who receive it by faith in Jesus Christ and His death on the cross. The evidence of this faith is the transformed life James is talking about when he says that “faith without works is dead.”

Jesus makes it very clear that those who profess Christ with their mouths, but who do not love and forgive others will have no home in heaven. Forgiveness, kindness, and sharing the good news are not options but commands.

Jesus died on the cross to set us free from bondage to sin so that we could become slaves to His righteousness. He gives us the transforming power of the Holy Spirit to live lives pleasing to God. The grace of God is free, but it’s not cheap. It cost God His only Son and we dare not abuse God’s grace by continuing to wallow in the pig pens of sin.

In addition to our destination being confirmed, our rewards beyond salvation will be handed out. There is a mystery about what these rewards might be, but we need to be aware that they do exist and not be ashamed to seek them.

We need to audit ourselves daily by asking whether we are living as slaves to righteousness by bearing the fruit of the Spirit. Is there any evidence to convict us of being born again Christians?

Father, by the power of your Spirit, let me be found among the truly redeemed, and let me hear your “well done” on judgment day. In Jesus name, Amen
