Check Out Time [John 8, Psalm 49]
Read John 8, Psalm 49
Check Out Time
“Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die like everyone else, will live again.” John 11:25 NLT
The important thing is not only that there is a check out time, but that we need to be ready when it comes. We need to be dressed in the white robe of righteousness that is ours only by faith in Jesus Christ. This is the only proper attire assuring a royal transport to eternal life in heaven, where we will never check out.
Every hotel, motel, or resort has a check out time. Unless you are able to make special arrangements, you have to be checked out by this time in order to avoid paying another day’s rent.
We each have a check out time from life on this earth. This was set by God before we were ever born and whether we are allowed to check out early or live a long life, our times are in God’s hands.
God does promise a long life to those who honor their fathers and mothers. (Exodus 20:12, Deuteronomy 5:16)
We know that suicide is abhorrent because all hope of forgiveness through repentance is gone with it. We can commit spiritual suicide by checking out of a relationship with God and pursuing the perceived pleasures of sin.
God is absolutely sovereign. He is in control of everything. In His sovereignty, He allows a lot of bad things to happen even to good people from our perspective.
God is also absolute love and goodness. Although we may never see it from our perspective, He does make all things new, and He does work all things, including our sins and their consequences for our good and His glory.
Father, don’t let me check out without confirmed reservations for my next destination. In Jesus’ name, Amen
