Things are Looking Up [Ephesians 3:12-21]

Things are Looking Up

I had an acquaintance who had been suffering through an assortment of illnesses fairly common for those in their 80s.

I hadn’t seen her much lately. When I did and inquired about how she was doing, her response was “things are looking up!” It took a while for it to dawn on me that this was her way of saying that she was dying.

Alcoholics Anonymous and many other substance abuse programs are based on the understanding that the only way to help any addict is to pin them down to where they admit they have a problem, and then help them to look up to that higher power Who can cover their weaknesses with His strength to overcome their problem one day at a time.

Sometimes God has to lay us low in order to make us look up.

He does have a way of getting our attention when we stray and quit looking up to Him.

The bottom line is where are you looking when problems come. Are you looking down in defeat and despair like one who has no hope? Are you looking down at the problem instead of up to the problem solver?

The closer we get to our last day on this earth, the less we look up to the things we used to look up to. Somehow, the status symbols and the toys don’t seem that important.

When we look up, faith kicks in and kicks fear out. We will see the Glory of the Lord and the wonderful future we have with Him. It is a future worth living for, and a future worth dying for.

Things are always “looking up” for those whose trust is in the Lord.

Prayer:
Father, give me the faith and the courage to look up and beyond the temporary trials and troubles of this life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Until next time…
May the Lord Richly Bless You
